Ashbeys Galleries

Ashbeys Galleries was started by Edwin Rivers Ashbey as a small picture framing and artists materials shop in Whitehall at the corner of Burg Street and Greenmarket Square in 1891. Ashbeys Galleries held the first exhibitions of some of South Africa's most respected artists including Irma Stern, J.H. Pierneef and Tinus de Jongh. Ashbeys Galleries holds weekly general auctions as well as monthly antiques and works of art auctions sourced from private vendors, deceased and insolvent estates as well as trust companies, banks and attorneys. Ashbey's Galleries offers free consultations with auctioneer Inge Barnard. Consultations including auction estimates are offered every morning except Thursdays, when auctions are conducted. This consultation period is also available all day on Fridays. Valuations for estate purposes, insurance purposes as well as corporate art valuations are undertaken.
