The Athenaeum

Port Elizabeth, Belmont Terrace & Castle Hill

The Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA), on behalf of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality with the financial support of the NLDTF, has been commissioned to restore the 'Grand Lady' of Arts and Culture of Nelson Mandela Bay which is situated at the corner of Castle Hill and Belmont Terrace. The Athenaeum operates as a cultural hub; hosting events, exhibitions and plays at their theatre.

As of January 2013, Numb City Productions has taken up residency at The Athenaeum centre. Numb City works alongside the Athenaeum Council to breathe new life into this restored cultural centre. Numb City Productions aims to help facilitate the development and growth of a robust arts and culture industry in Nelson Mandela Bay by networking between public and private sectors, connecting new young talent with established industry professionals and generate high quality productions across a range of mediums: from print to film; digital platforms to event production.
