THE PROJECT SPACE

Johannesburg, 76 End St, Doornifontein,

Established 2016 by artist Benon Lutaaya, and born out of the 2010 National Research statistical data by the South African Department of Arts and Culture on visual arts, part of which indicated that only 12% of women make a living from creating art. THE PROJECT SPACE was founded on the basis of empowering more young female artists to engage in full-time practice as visual artists.

Located within the heart of the Johannesburg City, THE PROJECT SPACE is a Non-profit cultural institution and forms part of the Southern African Foundation for Contemporary Art (SAFFCA) creative and experimental platforms aimed at giving Art exposure through passion; to support, nurture and promote the Visual Arts and Artists of the African continent.

The Space lies within a dynamic, and creative August House community that houses over 50 emerging, mid-career, and established artists, and extends to another uniquely integrated creative urban complex, the Victoria Yards

THE PROJECT SPACE has approximately 300sqm live-in and work studio platform in August House, and 200sqm of work and live-in studio, including a gallery space at Victoria Yards

To serve its purpose, THE PROJECT SPACE works in partnership with other established local, and international arts development institutions through artistic cultural exchange programs and other projects as well as participating at major local and international Art Fairs.

All studio spaces are equipped with 24/7 Advanced LTE WiFi internet, Premium DSTV entertainment, a projector, WiFi connectable office printer, furnished lounge & dining spaces, furnished private en-suite bedrooms with cooling & heating, fully equipped kitchen, a water dispenser, coffee machine, a blender & Juicer, 2 public and 1 private toilets & shower room, private access to the roof-top with amazing Johannesburg city views. The place can host 20 - 25 people (all seated) for workshop purposes.
